Codman (Edwin W.) House is built.
1867
Architect: Sturgis & Brigham. Built for the wine merchant and his wife, it is located at 53 Marlborough Street. Subsequent occupants include investment banker Gardiner Lane and his family, including his daughter, a sculptor, who after her 1947 marriage, becomes Katherine Weems and moves to New York. She donates the building to the French Institute in 1957 and it becomes the French Library and Cultural Center in 1961.*
